Hi,
My name is Peter Mills (as you probably know by now!) and I absolutely love music. I am 30, and I started playing the piano when I was 9, and had lessons up to grade 6 where I decided to concentrate on my own and increase my ability to improvise. I am now able to play in a variety of styles without any notation. I have recently moved to Bristol, but whilst in London I taught a variety of skills to a wide range of different pupils. I was also employed by the Music House for Children in Shepherds Bush as a teacher.
I began playing the guitar at 16 and after playing rock for a few years branched out and now play a variety of different styles including Jazz, using different techniques such as finger picking and bass guitar-like slap and mute techniques. At this time I was working as a classroom assistant at Queen Alexandra College in Birmingham running a drama and music class.
When I was 21, I began a degree in Commercial Music Degree at the University of Westminster in Harrow, as I had been writing electronic music since I was eighteen, and the course enabled me to learn a huge range of techniques whilst also playing with many different musicians. I played piano in a group called The 'Irrepressibles', completed a music recording project in china, and played live laptop sets with a renowned beatboxer called MCXander. I learnt studio recording and engineering, the workings of the music industry, live performance, and how to release a single, among other modules. I graduated with a 2:1 and have since worked at the Performing Right Society and been writing Breakbeat for release, and more recently an improvised classical piano album. Other recent projects have included mixing and mastering Hiphop for a producer 'Exist', music for the More Than adverts, programming for a samples and midi files website, and a hypnotherapy cd for Sayeda Habib, a hypnotherapist and life coach based in London.
This is how I am able to offer so many different things, so please feel free to contact me and ask any questions or discuss what you would like to learn or have produced, mixed or mastered.
As well as music, I also tutor in Media Studies, English, and ICT up to A-level as these were my specialist subjects at school and university.
